A "ghazal" is a poetic form that originated in Arabic literature and later became an important part of Persian, Urdu, and other South Asian literatures. It is composed of rhyming couplets, each line having the same meter and ending with a refrain. The ghazal traditionally explores themes of deep emotional connections. Pakistan has a rich tradition of Urdu literature, and ghazals play a vital role in this literary landscape.

Mirza Ghalib is considered one of the greatest and most influential poets, particularly ghazals, in the Urdu language. Mirza Ghalib's real name was Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan, and he adopted the pen name "Ghalib," which means "dominant" or "conqueror." Ghalib's poetry reflects his experiences of love, loss, spirituality, and the socio-political climate of his time.

Ghalib's poetic genius shone through despite the hardships he faced in his personal life. His poetry beautifully captures his struggles with poverty, unrequited love, and the decline of the Mughal Empire. Ghalib's verses, infused with a sense of melancholy, evoke a poignant nostalgia for a bygone era.

In Pakistan, Ghalib's verses are taught in schools and universities in Urdu literature studies. His ghazals are also performed and cherished in musical gatherings, known as "mushairas," where poets and enthusiasts come together to recite and appreciate Urdu poetry.

The combination of musicality, emotional resonance, and linguistic artistry makes Urdu ghazals a cherished and celebrated form of poetry in the Urdu-speaking world.
