The new Hollywood "Barbie" movie has created record-setting buzz. To look back in history, Barbies were first introduced to Pakistan in the late 1980s, and quickly became a symbol of Western influence to young girls.

Over the years, Mattel, the company behind Barbie, adapted the doll to be more culturally relevant in Pakistan. Special editions were introduced featuring traditional Pakistani clothing, such as shalwar kameez and dupattas, making Barbie more relatable to the local culture which helped with the initial criticism Barbie had received that went against Pakistan's conservative society.

The new movie has been a hit internationally since the Barbie brand has been known all over the globe and many consider part of their childhood. In recent news, some parts of Pakistan had temporarily banned screening the Barbie movie over "objectionable content" until some scenes were cut out from the film. Many Pakistanis had expressed dissapointment for the censorship and questioned the rationale behind the decision.

Hollywood or American movies has been an integral part of Pakistan's entertainment landscape and widely influences various aspects of Pakistani culture, fashion, and society. Knowing this, Pakistan has banned several movies including "The Wolf of Wall Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Borat for reasons of social and political sensitivities imposed by CBFC in Pakistan.

Nevertheless, American entertainment largely influences people of Pakistan, and this tee is made to be a playful Urdu version of the Barbie logo, which reads Barbie in Urdu.
